Running out of a part mid-job costs you twice — once in the delay, and again in the trip to go get it. Overordering costs you differently: cash tied up in shelf inventory that isn't moving.
Most shops solve this by "just knowing" what's low — until the one week someone's on vacation and nobody notices the shelf is empty.
How reorder rules work in Odoo Community
- On any product, go to the Inventory tab and set a Reordering Rule: a minimum quantity and a maximum quantity.
- When stock drops below the minimum, Odoo automatically generates a purchase suggestion (or a full draft Purchase Order, depending on how you configure it) to bring it back up to the maximum.
- Review the Replenishment view weekly — it shows every product that needs attention in one list, instead of a walk around the shop.
- Adjust min/max levels seasonally for anything that moves differently in summer versus winter.
Once reorder rules are set, restocking stops being a memory exercise and becomes something the system reminds you to do.
